Biography:Comrade Fredrick Chiwanga is a lecturer in the Department of Tourism and Recreation, Sokoine University of Agriculture.

Besides, Comrade Chiwanga is one of the renowned competent translators and conference interpreters.  He is a member of professional associations including the East Africa Interpreters and Translators Association.

 

When Comrade Chiwanga joined SUA, he had worked in the Tourism industry for about 8 years as a courier, among other titles, who could lead VIP tourist convoys to different tourist destinations including national parks, Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Mt Kilimanjaro, the roof of Africa.

 

He is passionate about teaching, consultancies  (interpreting, translation, editing, proofreading), research, and outreach programmes.

As for the teaching, he is fond of teaching English and French as foreign languages, Kiswahili to foreigners, also cultural tourism, tour guiding and interpretation techniques.

 

With regard to consultancies and outreach programmes, Comrade Chiwanga deals with rapporteuring, transcription, teaching language for Specific purposes, and organising tours and safaris apart from the conference interpreting and translation.

 

Comrade Chiwanga has also edited and proofread a good number of scholarly works (Research papers, Masters & PhD Dissertations/Theses) from various univeristies and other related works from NGOs at national and international levels.

 

Specific areas that he likes researching include the language of tourism, oral communicative competence, translation, interpretation, discourse analysis, language and culture, onomastics, historical linguistics, diplomatic interactions, sign language, cultural norms, and human-wildlife interaction, to mention a few.
